This story explores the complex lives of elephants living under the care of people in Kerala. Can elephants really understand us? Do they really bond with the humans who look after them like the Malayalis (people of Kerala) believe? How much do we know and understand about the psyche of these beautiful creatures and what do animal rights activists have to say? There are many questions that remain unanswered, but we hope, that this would start a meaningful debate about what may be best for the welfare of the last of the pet elephants in Kerala.
